I wanted to get this blog entry up and going to get the word out there about the new Cricut mats. They’ve finally listened to our pleas! Different papers require different stickiness. Please note, however, that these mats are ONLY for use in the Cricut Expression, and the Cricut Expression 2. You cannot use them in the original (6×12 mat) Cricut or Cricut Create, or the newer Cricut Mini. And despite the fact that the Cricut Imagine accepts 12×12 mats, you cannot use it in that machine either, as it lacks the black registration marks required to align the printing and cutting. (The mats for this will still be available…but they might not be carried in stores, so stock up online!)

The standard mat is green. This mat is perfect for:

  • Cardstock
  • Pattern paper
  • Embossed cardstock
  • Iron-on (a NEW product coming soon to the Cricut line – more about this another blog entry!)
  • Vinyl

The stronggrip mat is grey. It is perfect for cutting:

  • Thicker cardstock
  • Glitter cardstock
  • Magnet material
  • Chipboard
  • Poster board
  • Fabric with stiffener

The lightgrip mat is blue. It is perfect for cutting:

  • Printer paper
  • Thin cardstock
  • Vellum
  • Construction paper
  • Vinyl

Thanks to Cricut for giving us better options to choose from. All I ask now, is maybe put those registration marks on it so they can be used in the Imagine. 🙂

Happy crafting!
