Cupcake Boxes

My latest project was to make cupcake boxes for my daughter’s school. They had a Halloween dance, and the cupcakes were being sent to the bake sale to raise money for the PTA. The problem? All treats needed to be individually wrapped.

Luckily, Cricut recently released “Sweet Tooth Boxes”, a project cartridge. The project cartridges have less features, and therefore are less money than full-featured cartridges. So, first, a mad dash to actually find said cartridge. (Which seems to be sold out most places online, and also in most stores.) 4 stores later…I managed to snag the last copy at A.C. Moore.

The end result?

To make this, I used cardstock/paper by Me & My Big Ideas (@ A.C. Moore). I also used black linen cardstock from Joann’s. I have found that the best adhesive to use is from my ATG. (I love my special pink one, that supports breast cancer awareness!) I also used acetate to make the window on top. (4 sheets was enough to make 24 boxes.)

“Sweet Tooth Boxes” was a bit of a surprise for me. Unlike older cartridges, this one not only gave a size recommendation, but gluing instructions, as well! If this is a sign of things to come, and perhaps a norm for the project cartridge line, I may well be purchasing more in the future. I used my Gypsy in conjunction with my Cricut Expression to make these.

The cupcakes themselves were standard funfetti Halloween edition, with coordinating frosting. (Thanks to my son for helping me bake them!) I decorated each with a plastic spider ring keepsake.

Here is a shot of all of them together:

  1. Hi, I just purchase this sweet tooth cartridge and was very frustrated using it. I tried using the sizing recommendations on the instructions. Is there a cheat sheet anywhere on using different dimensions? I cut a 9.5 box and 9.5 lid but the insert I cut 6.5 it managed to fit but it took several tries and wasted paper. Should I have cut the insert at 9.5 as well? Any guidance will great appreciate.

    1. The recommendations in the guidebook for Cricut’s Sweet Tooth Boxes are on point. Make sure you do NOT have “real size” enabled. This will absolutely affect your results. And with any Cricut cartridge, if you cut one piece at a size, the other pieces would also be at the same size. So the box and the insert need to both be cut at 9.5 for them to work together.
