More MIL Updates

Since the last time I posted about her, she was released from the hospital. And admitted again. And released again.

Last week she went to Robert Wood Johnson to meet with the pancreatic cancer specialist. They actually are not too clear on whether it is true pancreatic cancer, or duodenal (sp?) cancer. However, either way it makes no difference. She is not eligible for surgery, as we all already knew would happen. She is being referred back to Warren Hospital to have treatment here. (A special chemo to clear out the bile ducts, apparently, providing she is eligible and able to withstand it with her liver/cirrhosis problems.) The doctor gave an estimate of 5-10 months, but stated the liver issue would probably get her sooner.

And now she was admitted again last night. We got the call around midnight, she had collapsed again. She is once again having bile and blood come up in both her vomit and stool. Unlike last time, however, they can’t seem to get the bleeding to stop. They have done like 2 blood transfusions since last night. They said after one or two more, if she doesn’t stop bleeding, that they will not put her through anymore. They are also starting her on a morphine drip tonight…the doctors don’t really expect her to make it and want her to be comfortable.

In light of the doctors’ prediction, she wanted to see her grandkids. So, we brought them all to see her, and they were all choked up and crying, of course. I will try to keep everyone posted on updates on this more timely.
